What do customers ask about Seam Repair & Blending?

Common questions and tips from our work with San Antonio customers.

Why does my countertop seam stand out so much?

Most visible seams come from lippage (one slab edge sitting higher than the other) or epoxy that was never color matched to the stone. Over time the epoxy can also yellow or shrink, widening the gap. We regrind the joint, reset the height so the surfaces are flush, and tint fresh epoxy to the slab's actual veining instead of a generic filler color.

Can a bad seam be fixed without replacing the slab?

Almost always, yes. Unless the stone itself is cracked on both sides of the joint, a mismatched seam is a fabrication and alignment issue, not a slab issue. We can grind, realign, and re-epoxy an existing seam in most San Antonio kitchens without touching the rest of the countertop.

Tip

What a tight seam should actually look like

Industry practice targets a seam gap of about 1/16 inch or less, with no detectable lippage when you run a hand across the joint. Epoxy used for seam work typically sets enough to handle light contact within an hour and reaches full cure within a day, which is why most seam jobs finish in a single visit without leaving the kitchen unusable overnight.

Do you match seams on granite, quartz, and marble?

Yes. Each material behaves differently at the joint. Granite seams need vein matching across natural pattern breaks, quartz needs a tint match to a more uniform engineered surface, and marble seams need extra care since the stone scratches and etches more easily during regrinding. We adjust the epoxy blend and technique to the material in front of us.

Common questions

Can you really make a crack repair invisible?

On granite and most quartz, color-matched epoxy fill and careful polishing can make a crack repair very hard to spot once cured, especially on stone with heavier veining or pattern to work with. Solid-color quartz and light marble show repairs a bit more. Andre will tell you honestly what result to expect before starting.
